Projects

What has WellFare achieved?

Since inception, WellFare has been focused on delivering specific projects to help the BMK School.  Please find details of the projects delivered to date.

Water pump

The water pump was the first WellFare project. There was no clean water at the school. Children had to walk a mile to the nearest source of water and a mile back to the school. The pump now supplies water to the school and over 300 households.

Solar Power

WellFare has provided a state-of-the-art solar power system at the BMK School. This system now provides lighting throughout the school enabling studies through the evening.

Classrooms

The building of two new classrooms was the second major project undertaken by WellFare and provided the school with their first purpose built classrooms.

Pit latrine

The last major project has been to build brand new pit latrines at the school. The WellFare ‘Spend-A-Penny’ appeal succeeded in raising the necessary finance to built latrines.

Why latrines? School inspectors threatened to close the school down unless there were adequate toilet facilities.

Now thanks to WellFare the school can operate without fear of closure.
